The Catholic Diocese of Baguio is the Catholic Church jurisdiction in Northern Philippines comprising the Province of Benguet and the City of Baguio. Integral to its religious programs and activities, the Diocese advocates a social action program which aims to address social and economic concerns such as poverty and justice, education, wellness and the care for the natural environment. One of the programs that was considered is Organic Farming which was initiated by Rev. Fr, Bede Lee and started un early 2016.
The Organic Farming Program (OFP) comprises community organizing, demo farms, outlet stores and learning activities. This program aims to provide a quality of life for farmers and consumers. All those who work in the farm meet their basic needs and gain a sufficient and reasonable return out of their work.
Through organic farming system, farm inputs are developed from natural resources that are locally available thereby protecting the environment compared to the conventional farming system whereby inorganic farm inputs are chemically manufactured and used which cause harmful effects to humans and the environment.
